Casa Presidencial, Presidential building in San Jacinto district, El Salvador.
Casa Presidencial is a building in Art Nouveau style with ornate details, symmetrical facades, and extensive gardens surrounding the main structure. The interior rooms include the Oval Room and Hall of Honor, where official functions take place.
Construction of the building began in 1911 after the government acquired the Quinta Natalia property under President Manuel Enrique Araujo. In the early 1930s it was transformed into the presidential headquarters under General Hernández Martínez.
The main halls display paintings created between 1957 and 1959 by Chilean artist Luis Vergara Ahumada. These artworks decorated the space during a period when it functioned as the center of governmental power.
The building offers guided tours through its corridors and historical rooms. Tours are available throughout the week and allow visitors to explore the different areas and spaces within the structure.
The building was originally designed in 1924 as a normal school for male teachers. It was later repurposed to serve as the presidential headquarters, taking on an entirely different role.
