Teatro Presidente

Teatro Presidente is the national theatre in San Salvador, featuring a Maya-inspired mural decorating its entrance hall. The auditorium holds approximately 1,400 seats arranged in a forward-facing layout, with an orchestra pit positioned for live performances.

The theatre opened on December 1, 1971, initially functioning as a venue for official government events and legislative gatherings. It later evolved into a major cultural institution dedicated to hosting artistic performances across multiple disciplines.

The theatre displays busts of important Salvadoran artists and writers who shaped the nation's cultural life. It hosts symphony concerts, ballet performances, and theatrical productions that form the backbone of the capital's arts scene.

The theatre is located in the San Benito neighbourhood at the end of Avenida La Revolucion, making it straightforward to find. The National Directorate of Arts organises regular cultural events there, so checking the schedule beforehand helps you plan your visit.

The theatre's entry vestibule contains a mural depicting scenes from the Popol Vuh, the sacred book of the Maya. Artists Roberto Huezo and Roberto Galicia created this artistic work, bringing indigenous narratives directly into the modern theatre space.
