Museum of Art of El Salvador, Art museum in San Salvador, El Salvador
The Museum of Art of El Salvador displays works by Salvadoran artists through permanent collections and rotating exhibitions across about 3,000 square meters (32,000 sq ft). The space is organized to show different artistic styles and periods in separate areas.
The museum opened in 2003 in a modern building designed by architect Salvador Choussy. It was created as a major institution to preserve and present Salvadoran art in the capital city.
The exhibition 'Trópico Telúrico' shows how different influences have shaped Salvadoran identity through the work of local artists. You can see how tradition and outside influences blend together in the works on display.
The museum offers guided tours designed specifically for school groups from public schools across the country. Visitors should allow time for a full tour and check which exhibitions are currently on display.
The collection grows through donations from artists and collectors both locally and from abroad. The museum collaborates with international museums to exchange exhibitions and expand what it can offer visitors.
