Museo Regional del Sureste de Petén

The Southeastern Petén Regional Museum displays 125 ceramic pieces and eight stone sculptures representing artifacts from 22 archaeological sites in the region.

The museum opened in March 2005 following construction that began in December 1999, preserving artifacts discovered during regional infrastructure development.

The collection includes Mayan artifacts spanning from 900 BC to 1524 AD, featuring ceremonial vases and sculptures from sites like Calzada Mopan and Curucuitz.

Located 82 kilometers from Flores, the museum operates Tuesday through Sunday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM with free admission for all visitors.

A Late Classic ceramic vase from Sacul depicts a mythological scene connecting the Mayan maize god with lunar symbolism through intricate artwork.
