Las Bocas

Las Bocas is an archaeological site in the Balsas River basin with layers from the early period between 1250 and 1000 BCE. The location displays multiple excavation areas where ceramics and human remains have been uncovered.

Systematic investigation of the site began in 1967 under archaeologist David Grove. Extensive excavations between 1997 and 2000 brought significant findings about the early inhabitants of the region.

The ceramics found here display forms and decorations typical of early cultures in the region. Visitors can see these working styles in museum displays that offer insight into the craftsmanship of that time.

The site is located in Puebla state and managed by Mexican authorities. Visitors should check in advance whether guided tours or visits are possible, as the location is actively used for research purposes.

Figurines in the style of early cultures were found here, but many objects sold under this name actually come from elsewhere. This confusion makes it hard to tell genuine artifacts from fakes.
