Opened on August 5, 1999, the museum is housed in what was one of Hidalgo's first railway stations, established in 1893 as part of the Ferrocarril de Hidalgo system that connected the region to Mexico City, with the last passenger train arriving in 1997 and final cargo service ending in 1999.
The museum preserves original furniture, work tools, historical documents, and everyday objects from the railway industry, offering visitors a chronological journey through train history from its global beginnings to its arrival in Mexico, including artifacts from the Mexican Revolution that highlight the railroad's role in crucial historical events.
Located at Avenida Morelos s/n in downtown Tulancingo, the museum offers free admission and operates Tuesday through Sunday from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM, providing guided tours for educational institutions and tourists, with information about activities and exhibitions shared through their Facebook page.
The museum features an original station master's office complete with authentic desks, typewriters, calculators, and handwritten logbooks that document daily railway operations, alongside a recreation of the original ticket window where employees sold tickets, displaying historical ticket specimens from past eras.
