181 Fremont Street, Mixed-use skyscraper in South of Market District, San Francisco, United States
181 Fremont Street is a 54-story skyscraper in South of Market that combines offices and residential units in a single mixed-use structure. Office spaces fill the lower and middle floors while homes occupy the upper levels.
Built between 2016 and 2018, this tower expanded San Francisco's modern skyline during a period of rapid downtown growth. The project transformed the South of Market area into a major commercial hub.
The building design by Heller Manus Architects reflects the evolution of San Francisco's urban landscape through its integration of commercial and residential spaces.
The building sits right next to the Salesforce Transit Center, making it easy to reach by public transportation from across the city. Access to many areas inside is restricted since it is a business building with security checkpoints.
This is the first skyscraper in the United States to feature an innovative elevator evacuation system that can safely move people out of the building when normal routes are blocked. The system makes it a pioneer in emergency safety design.
