Tule River Tribe, Indigenous reservation in Tulare County, United States.
The Tule River Reservation spreads across about 55,000 acres (22,257 hectares) of land in the Sierra Nevada foothills of California. The land includes forests and valleys that are home to the Yokuts community.
The reservation was established in 1857 and relocated to its present location in 1873. This move occurred 16 years after the original founding and placed the community ten miles southeast of Porterville.
The Tule River Yokuts have maintained their connection to the land and continue to shape daily life on the reservation. Tribal traditions and practices reflect the deep relationship this community has with the Sierra Nevada foothills.
Visitor access and planning works best when arranged in advance with the tribal offices in Porterville, located about ten miles from the main reservation lands. The area is accessible by car through regional highways leading into the foothills.
The Tule River Native Veterans Post, founded in 1987, was the first Native American veterans organization in the United States. This groundbreaking organization emerged from this community as a way to honor and support indigenous service members.
