Bridgeport

Bridgeport is a small settlement in the Bridgeport Valley situated at about 1,970 meters (6,460 feet) elevation in California. The town sits where US 395 and State Route 182 intersect, serving as a focal point for this remote mountain region.

The place was originally called Big Meadows and received its first post office in 1864. From this beginning, it grew into an administrative center for Mono County.

The Bridgeport Paiute Indian Colony maintains its tribal headquarters here, and their presence shapes the community's identity. Local traditions and gatherings reflect the continuing heritage of the Paiute people.

The town offers basic services including lodging and dining for visitors and residents. Keep in mind this is a very small settlement where options are limited, so planning ahead is helpful.

The Bridgeport Reservoir on the East Walker River forms the northwest boundary and offers fishing year-round. Many visitors come to this remote area specifically for the water recreation it provides.
