The Cosmopolitan is a resort and casino on the Las Vegas Strip in Nevada. The building rises 61 floors and contains more than 3,000 rooms with floor-to-ceiling windows.
The Cosmopolitan was built on the parking lot of the Jockey Club timeshare buildings, which the resort now surrounds; residents were given parking space beneath the new resort. Groundbreaking took place on October 25, 2005, tower construction began on April 9, 2007, and the resort opened on December 15, 2010, at a cost of $3.9 billion.
The Chandelier bar spans three levels and is wrapped by more than two million glass crystals hanging like a giant curtain. Guests can sit beneath this installation and enjoy cocktails while light plays through the crystals.
The resort occupies 8.5 acres at 3708 Las Vegas Boulevard South, a tight site that forced a vertical layout. It wraps the low-rise Jockey Club timeshare buildings on the north side, separated by as little as five feet, and Jockey Club residents park in the resort's underground garage.
Many suites have wraparound terraces with verandas that open to the outside. These outdoor spaces are rare in this form along the Strip.
