Las Vegas Ski and Snowboard Resort, Ski resort in Clark County, Nevada.
Las Vegas Ski and Snowboard Resort is a ski resort in the Spring Mountains of Nevada, located about 30 miles (48 km) northwest of Las Vegas at elevations between roughly 8,500 and 9,500 feet (2,600 and 2,900 m). It has a handful of lifts and a set of runs that cover a range of difficulty levels, from beginner slopes to more challenging terrain.
The resort has operated since the 1960s and started as a small local facility for people in the Las Vegas area. Over the following decades, its infrastructure grew and snowmaking equipment was added to keep it running through winters with little natural snow.
The resort sits in Lee Canyon, a mountain valley in the Spring Mountains that feels nothing like the desert below. Skiing or snowboarding here gives visitors a side of Nevada that most people never expect to find so close to the city.
The resort is about an hour's drive from the Las Vegas Strip, and the road up through Lee Canyon is well marked. Parking fills up quickly on weekends and holidays, so arriving early in the day makes the visit much easier.
Even though the resort is only a short drive from one of the hottest cities in the country, its elevation is high enough to receive natural snowfall each winter. On some days, a visitor can ski in the morning and be back in the desert heat of Las Vegas by the afternoon.
