North Fork Owyhee Wilderness

North Fork Owyhee Wilderness is a protected nature reserve in southwestern Idaho covering over 43,000 acres of land shaped by deep river canyons, sagebrush plateaus, and volcanic formations. The landscape features steep canyons carved from volcanic rock and open plateaus that stretch across wide distances.

The area was officially designated as a protected wilderness in 2009 through federal law after being pursued by conservationists for many years. This recognition preserved a section of land from commercial development and prioritized conservation over resource extraction.

The area is cherished by visitors who prefer to explore on foot, as motorized vehicles and heavy machinery are not permitted. This rule shapes the experience and encourages a quieter, less disturbed way of discovering the land.
