Lee Garden, Hill in Hong Kong
Lee Garden is a hillside area in Wan Chai with modern shopping centers, shops, and office buildings built on historic land. The landscape is made up mainly of high-rise structures such as Lee Garden One through Six, with shops, cafes, and services beneath them that keep the area busy and active.
The area was owned by Jardine Matheson Company in the early 1800s and known as Jardine's Hill. In 1923, Lee Hysan purchased the land and later built an amusement park, which eventually developed into the business complex visitors see today.
The name Lee Garden comes from Lee Hysan, a wealthy businessman whose family shaped the area. Visitors can still see how the past lives on through building names and older shops that stand alongside modern shopping centers, telling the story of the neighborhood's evolution.
The area is easy to reach by public transport and has wide, level paths for comfortable walking. The best times to visit are mornings or afternoons, when it is less crowded than during lunch hour or evening rush times.
The site once held an amusement park that was popular with families and young people before it closed. Many visitors do not realize they are walking over the remains of this playful past on modern shopping streets.
