Mount Miaofeng

Mount Miaofeng is a mountain peak about 1,330 meters high in northwestern Beijing with extensive natural terrain covering the slopes. The summit features an ancient temple that anchors the landscape, accessible via several centuries-old walking paths that wind up from the base.

The shrine dedicated to a goddess was established between the 10th and 12th centuries and grew into a major pilgrimage site over subsequent centuries. The temple later received imperial recognition, reflecting its importance as a spiritual destination in the region.

This mountain has long been a place of worship, and visitors can observe traditional rituals and processions to the temple throughout the year. The religious significance shapes how the space looks today, with offerings and devotional objects visible along the paths and around the shrine.

The mountain is generally accessible to visitors but requires good fitness for the climb to the summit. Warm clothing and sturdy shoes are advisable, especially during the colder months.

Five ancient pilgrimage routes converge at the mountain's base, marked by the ruins of tea shelters and stone structures that tell the story of countless travelers. These paths preserve the memory of generations who made the journey uphill.
