Park County

Park County spans 18,044 square kilometers, encompassing portions of Yellowstone National Park and Shoshone National Forest with three major rivers flowing through the territory.

The county formed from the western section of Big Horn County in 1909, receiving its name from Yellowstone National Park within its boundaries.

First-generation English immigrants and their descendants formed the primary population group in 1911, maintaining strong connections to their heritage throughout World War I.

The county seat of Cody connects to surrounding areas through U.S. Highways 14, 16, 20, and 191, providing access to Yellowstone National Park.

Heart Mountain contained a relocation center during World War II that housed over 10,000 Japanese Americans, functioning as an independent community.
