Neusiedl am See District

The largest district of Burgenland comprises 27 municipalities around Lake Neusiedl, bordered by Hungary and Slovakia at the eastern edge of Austria.

The district administration was established in 1921 when Burgenland became part of Austria following the dissolution of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

The district maintains strong wine production traditions with numerous vineyards specializing in white wines like Grüner Veltliner and Welschriesling throughout its territory.

The administrative center provides essential public services, including health facilities, civil registration, and agricultural support for the 61,768 residents across 1,039 square kilometers.

Between 1864 and 1867, Lake Neusiedl completely dried up, transforming the district's landscape until water returned to create Central Europe's largest steppe lake.
