Мечеть Абу Бакр, Religious site in Narimanov district, Baku, Azerbaijan.
Abu Bakr Mosque is a place of worship featuring one central dome and two minarets designed according to Islamic architectural principles. Inside, separate prayer areas serve men and women, with capacity for approximately 6,000 worshippers.
The building was constructed in 1997 through collaboration between Azerbaijani and Kuwaiti Islamic organizations. Extensive renovation work took place between 2021 and 2023 to modernize the structure.
The mosque serves as a gathering place where worshippers come to pray and participate in community events. It reflects the religious importance this site holds for Muslim residents of the neighborhood.
Visitors will find designated areas for removing shoes and ritual washing before prayer. Adjacent to the building is a bookstore and perfume shop that operate during regular hours.
The building has a troubled past: in 2008 it came under attack when grenades were thrown through its windows. The incident, which resulted in two deaths and multiple injuries, is a significant part of its history.
