Shaoxing

Shaoxing is a major city in Zhejiang province situated along the southern shore of Hangzhou Bay, spanning across six administrative districts. Waterways run through the urban area, linking older neighborhoods with newer residential and commercial zones.

The area served as the center of the ancient Yue state during the Spring and Autumn Period before it came under the control of the Chu state through military conquest. This early past shaped the region for centuries to come.

The city preserves the former home of writer Lu Xun and hosts the Zhufu ceremony, where locals perform traditional offerings to honor important figures. These practices reflect how community values and respect for heritage shape everyday life here.

The city is connected by two railway stations to major cities including Beijing and Shanghai, making regional travel straightforward. A nearby international airport also offers flights to other parts of China.

The local silk industry produces specialized textiles using techniques refined by generations of local artisans and makers. This longstanding craft tradition has made the city a significant center for silk manufacturing in China.
