Tangshan

Tangshan is a major industrial city in Hebei Province, positioned between Yanshan Mountain to the north and Bohai Sea to the south. The city contains sprawling steel mills, port facilities, and mining operations that dominate its landscape and economy.

Coal mining started in 1870 under the Kailuan Group, which led to China's first standard-gauge railway in 1882. This industrial foundation turned it into a crucial city during China's shift toward modern development.

The city shaped its identity through coal mining and became a center of industrial pride in northern China. Today, residents and visitors can see how this heritage influenced the urban layout and how people value the city's working-class roots.

Getting to the city from Beijing or Tianjin is straightforward by bus or train, with trips taking around two to three hours. Since the city spreads across several districts, planning routes beforehand helps navigate between major areas smoothly.

Sections of the Ming Great Wall at Xifengkou and Panjiakou now lie beneath Xifeng Lake, creating an unusual sight for visitors exploring by boat. These submerged portions offer a different perspective on one of China's most famous structures.
