Jiuquan

Jiuquan is a large city in Gansu Province in northwestern China. It spreads across a wide valley and serves as an important administrative and trade center for the region, with modern urban areas that gradually blend into the surrounding desert landscape.

The city was founded over 2000 years ago as a trading post on the Silk Road and was strategically important for protecting routes heading west. In the 20th century it became a modern city and today serves as a location for China's space program.

The climate is dry desert-like with large temperature swings between day and night, especially in warmer months. Visitors should prepare for sparse rainfall, dry air, and strong sun, bringing appropriate clothing and protection.
