Description
Tsuen Wan District is an administrative area on the western coast covering roughly 60 to 61 square kilometers with modern urban development, shopping centers, and industrial zones. It also includes sections of northeastern Lantau Island.
History
The area transformed from small fishing villages into an industrial center when Shanghai textile manufacturers built factories there starting in the 1940s. Manufacturing became the defining character of the region for decades.
Culture
The Sam Tung Uk Museum displays a restored Hakka village from the 1800s with traditional farming tools and household items that show how people once lived here. Walking through it reveals the daily rhythms and family structures of that era.
Practical
The MTR Tsuen Wan line provides direct connections to central Hong Kong, while numerous bus routes and ferry services offer additional travel options throughout the area. Public transport makes the district straightforward to navigate.
