Masanjia Labor Camp, Forced labor facility in Yuhong district near Shenyang, China
Masanjia Labor Camp is a detention facility in Yuhong district near Shenyang surrounded by high concrete walls, watchtowers, and barbed wire fencing. The complex contains administrative buildings, multiple housing structures, and work areas designed for forced production operations.
The Chinese government established this detention center in 1956 as part of a nationwide system designed to confine individuals without formal legal proceedings. It operated for decades as a place where the state isolated those it deemed undesirable.
The facility detained numerous groups, including Falun Gong practitioners, underground Christians, and individuals considered dissidents by authorities.
Access to the site is severely restricted and public visits are generally not permitted. Information about operations comes from testimonies and investigative reports by journalists and advocacy groups.
In 2012, an American consumer discovered a concealed message inside imported Halloween decorations revealing details of forced labor conditions. This finding brought international attention to practices within the facility.
