Dalian Development Area, Economic and Technological Development Zone in Jinzhou District, China.
Dalian Development Area is an industrial and business zone in Jinzhou District, Dalian, where factories, office buildings, research facilities, and residential neighborhoods sit side by side. The area has its own urban infrastructure with wide roads, modern buildings, and a port section along the coast.
The area was founded in 1984 as one of China's first national economic development zones, at a time when it was mostly agricultural coastal land. Over the following decades it was gradually turned into an industrial and technology region, drawing foreign companies and investment.
The zone brings together workers from many parts of China and from abroad, giving its neighborhoods a mixed and workday character. Small restaurants and shops near the office and factory blocks reflect the daily habits of the people who live and work there.
The zone is connected to central Dalian by metro lines 3 and 7, so it can be reached without a car. The area covers a lot of ground and different parts serve different purposes, so it is worth knowing your exact destination before you arrive.
Inside the zone sits DD Port, a harbor section designed specifically for bio-industry and digital companies, which is unusual for an industrial port. It sits directly next to a Free Trade Zone, meaning two distinct economic systems operate within a short distance of each other.
