China Science and Technology Museum, Science and technology museum in Olympic Village, Beijing, China
The China Science and Technology Museum is a science and technology museum in Beijing's Olympic Village with a massive square structure that reflects traditional Chinese puzzle designs. The building spans 48,000 square meters and features specialized theaters, laboratories, and classrooms throughout its interior.
The museum opened in 1988 near Beijing's Third Ring Road and relocated to a larger facility in the Olympic Village in 2009. The move allowed for significant expansion of exhibition spaces and modern equipment.
The five permanent halls showcase Chinese scientific achievements alongside global discoveries through interactive displays and educational demonstrations. Visitors can experiment directly with the concepts presented rather than simply observe from a distance.
The museum is open daily from 9:30 to 17:00 and welcomes visitors of all ages with exhibits at different difficulty levels. Plan to spend several hours exploring and trying out the interactive displays and hands-on activities.
The dome theater houses a massive spherical projection screen where astronomical and scientific content displays in full digital resolution. Visitors sit beneath it and can become completely immersed in the cosmic scenes unfolding overhead.
