The China Science and Technology Museum stands in Beijing's Olympic Village on Beichen East Road, Chaoyang District. Its new building, shaped like a traditional Chinese luban lock, opened in 2009 and covers 48,000 square meters. Inside are permanent and temporary exhibition halls plus classrooms, laboratories, lecture halls and four special-effect theaters.
The museum opened in 1988 near Beijing's Third Ring Road and relocated to a larger facility in the Olympic Village in 2009. The move allowed for significant expansion of exhibition spaces and modern equipment.
The five permanent halls showcase Chinese scientific achievements alongside global discoveries through interactive displays and educational demonstrations. Visitors can experiment directly with the concepts presented rather than simply observe from a distance.
The museum is open daily from 9:30 to 17:00 and welcomes visitors of all ages with exhibits at different difficulty levels. Plan to spend several hours exploring and trying out the interactive displays and hands-on activities.
The dome theater houses a massive spherical projection screen where astronomical and scientific content displays in full digital resolution. Visitors sit beneath it and can become completely immersed in the cosmic scenes unfolding overhead.
