Caiyuanba Bridge, Multi-level road and rail bridge across Yangtze River in Chongqing, China
Caiyuanba Bridge is a multi-level steel structure that carries both motor vehicles and trains across the Yangtze River in Chongqing. The bridge integrates six traffic lanes and two railway tracks for rail transit, all stacked within its design to serve multiple forms of transport simultaneously.
Construction started in 2007 and finished within the same year, linking the Nan'an and Yuzhong districts across the river. The project was part of Chongqing's rapid expansion during the 2000s when the city built many new crossings.
The bridge connects people living on opposite sides of the river, making daily commutes easier for thousands of residents who work across the water. It has become part of how the city functions, with trains and cars moving together on the same structure in a way many cities do not do.
The best times to cross are outside rush hours in early morning or evening when traffic flows more easily. Access is straightforward since there are separate lanes for cars and regular train service available.
The arch of the bridge spans 420 meters, one of the longest arch spans ever built in the world. This single massive arch supports all the traffic of both vehicles and trains passing overhead every day.
