Qiansimen Jialing River Bridge, Engineering bridge in Yuzhong District, China
The Qiansimen Jialing River Bridge is a cable-stayed structure crossing the Jialing River with a single tower and two-level design spanning 720 meters. The upper level carries four vehicle lanes while the lower level accommodates two railway tracks, allowing cars and trains to use the bridge at the same time.
Construction began in December 2009 and finished in June 2014, with the bridge opening to the public in April 2015. The project was part of a larger effort to improve transportation connections across Chongqing.
The bridge links the historic core with newer areas of the city, serving as an everyday passageway that locals have woven into their daily routines. It represents how the city balances old and new in its physical form.
The best viewpoint is from nearby Hongya Cave, where you can see the structure from different angles and distances. The bridge is accessible on foot, even though it prioritizes vehicle and train traffic, and offers good views of the river while crossing.
The bridge name comes from a historical Ming Dynasty gate that once stood in this area, creating an unexpected link between modern engineering and Chongqing's past. This connection often surprises visitors who discover the older story behind the contemporary structure.
