Mindroling Monastery, Buddhist monastery in Zhanang County, Tibet, China
The monastery complex spans 100,000 square meters with the main temple facing east and surrounded by mountains along the Zhanang River.
Established in 1676 by Nyingma master Terdak Lingpa, the monastery experienced destruction in 1718 but was rebuilt in 1720 under the guidance of two Geshe scholars.
The three-story main hall contains intricate wall paintings of protective deities and portraits of Nyingma lineage lamas, representing Tibetan Buddhist art traditions.
The monastery maintains facilities for studying Buddhist scriptures, traditional Tibetan medicine, incense production, and calligraphy within its educational programs.
Mindroling Monastery holds responsibility for calculating and publishing the Tibetan calendar, contributing to time-keeping traditions in Tibetan society.
