Engineer's Office of the Former Pumping Station
Engineer's Office of the Former Pumping Station, Grade I historic office in Yau Tsim Mong District, Hong Kong
The red brick building on Shanghai Street contains two floors with decorative brickwork, iron balustrades, and Neo-Classical architectural elements on the facade.
Built in 1895, this pumping station extracted 400,000 gallons of water daily from nearby wells to supply the growing population of Kowloon until 1911.
The building represents colonial engineering heritage and stands as the last remaining structure of Hong Kong's first water pumping infrastructure complex.
Located at 344 Shanghai Street, the structure awaits transformation into a Xiqu Activity Centre for Cantonese Opera performances and cultural activities.
The building survived a demolition plan in 2000 when authorities recognized its value as the oldest pumping station structure in Hong Kong.
