Tung Chung Battery, Artillery battery in Islands District, Hong Kong.
The fortification includes two artillery cannon emplacements and seven guard houses positioned on a cliff overlooking the water for naval defense purposes.
Built in 1817 to protect Tung Chung Bay from pirates, the battery remained hidden under dense vegetation until its rediscovery in 1980.
The construction details of this military structure are recorded in the Guangdong Annals, which documents the establishment of two forts at Rocky Lion Hill.
The battery received official monument status in 1983 and remains accessible through public transportation routes in the Islands District of Hong Kong.
The battery now faces the Hong Kong International Airport, presenting a contrast between ancient military defense structures and modern aviation infrastructure.
