Imperial City Wall Relics Park, Urban park in Dongcheng District, China.
The Imperial City Wall Relics Park is a green corridor in Dongcheng that follows the line of a historic fortification and features expansive lawns, dense plantings of shrubs, and diverse vegetation throughout. The park has a linear structure with water features and sculptural works integrated into the landscape design.
The park was established in 2001 to preserve sections of the original Ming Dynasty wall that once surrounded the Imperial City in Beijing. The project transformed the wall's remains into an accessible green space that protects these historical foundations.
The park displays sculptures and carved reliefs depicting scenes from daily life in ancient Beijing, allowing visitors to see how people lived centuries ago. These artworks are scattered throughout, inviting you to discover stories from the past as you walk along the path.
The park is near popular shopping areas and easily accessible through nearby subway stations, making it convenient to visit between other activities in the city. The green space is open during daylight hours and works well for a quick walk or longer stroll.
Despite stretching for considerable length, the park maintains a narrow consistent width throughout, yet contains many different plant species within this linear space. This botanical variety squeezed into such a compact corridor creates an unexpectedly green and diverse retreat.
