Guardian Art Center, Art museum in Donghuamen Subdistrict, China

Guardian Art Center stands at No. 1 Wangfujing Street in Dongcheng District, opposite the National Art Museum of China across Wusi Dajie. German architect Ole Scheeren and his firm Büro Ole Scheeren were commissioned in early 2011; construction began in 2013 and the building was completed in 2017. It serves as the headquarters of the Guardian cultural group, combining exhibition galleries, auction rooms, art storage, authentication and restoration workshops, and the PuXuan hotel.

The Guardian Art Center was designed by Ole Scheeren's firm Büro Ole Scheeren, commissioned in early 2011 and built between 2013 and 2017. It serves as the headquarters of the Guardian auction group, combining exhibition halls, auction rooms, art storage, restoration workshops and a hotel. Before construction, the site required demolition of part of 700-year-old Cuihua Hutong and much of the wall of the former Li Yuanhong residence; a section of that wall was rebuilt in 2017.

The lower section displays perforated grey basalt patterns that reference traditional Chinese landscape painting. This design choice connects modern architecture with classical artistic traditions in a way visitors can see directly.

The center stands at No. 1 Wangfujing Street in Dongcheng District, facing the National Art Museum of China across Wusi Dajie to its northwest. The Forbidden City lies a short walk west. The building combines exhibition galleries, auction rooms, art storage, appraisal and restoration workshops and the PuXuan hotel, so different entrances serve different functions.

During construction, the eastern section of 700-year-old Cuihua Hutong and much of the wall of Li Yuanhong's former residence were demolished; work stopped when a wall corner bearing a "Li Dadetang" boundary stone was reached. Before opening in 2017, a short stretch of the northern east wall was rebuilt to match the original and joined to the surviving old corner.
