The Jingzhou Yangtze River road-railway bridge is a cable-stayed structure spanning over 6300 meters across the Yangtze River between Jiangling County and Gong'an County. The bridge has an asymmetrical design with tall towers that support the main cables, while the deck carries separate lanes for vehicle traffic and a railway line side by side.
The bridge was developed to overcome the historical difficulty of crossing the Yangtze River, which previously required ferry services. After approximately 6 years of construction, the structure was completed and transformed regional transportation by combining road and rail traffic on a single crossing.
The bridge serves as a daily crossing point for residents who travel between the two counties for work and family visits. It has become part of the local identity, representing how the two communities are now more closely connected through modern transportation infrastructure.
The construction required innovative engineering techniques to anchor massive foundations in soft, silty ground. Visitors should note that the bridge carries heavy vehicle and train traffic daily, so viewing from designated observation points on either bank provides a better experience than walking the structure itself.
This was the first large bridge in the area to combine an expressway, high-speed railway, and local roads on the same structure. The asymmetrical layout allows emergency vehicles to access both sides without requiring complex detours or alternate routes.
