Nyarong is a valley region situated along the middle course of the Yalong River, enclosed by high mountains that create a deep gorge. Small farming settlements are scattered across the steep slopes, using the limited flat areas for agriculture.
In the 1800s, a local leader named Gombo Namgye unified the scattered tribes of the region and took control of trade routes connecting China and Tibet. This period shaped how power and commerce flowed through the area for generations.
