Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain, Steel roller coaster in Disneyland Park, France.
Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain is a steel coaster at Disneyland Park in France that combines acceleration, inversions and a mix of indoor and outdoor sections. The track reaches a height of 32 meters (105 feet) and extends over 1000 meters (3280 feet) of course, with trains made up of six cars each.
The installation opened in June 1995 with a Jules Verne theme and was redesigned as Space Mountain Mission 2 in 2005. In 2017 it received its current Star Wars theme with adapted visual and audio elements.
The theme merges elements from the science-fiction saga with the physical sensations of a coaster through projections and a specially composed film score. Visitors experience the staging in a darkened environment that recalls space battles and is supported by sound effects.
Guests must be at least 120 centimeters tall to ride and should be prepared for sudden acceleration and rotations. The ride takes place mostly in enclosed spaces, so orientation in the dark is required.
This installation is the only Space Mountain variation in Disney parks that combines inversions, a catapult system and both indoor and outdoor tracks. The combination of these three features makes the experience unusual within the global theme park landscape.
