Grande Ruine, Mountain peak in Dauphiné Alps, France
Grande Ruine is a mountain peak in the Dauphiné Alps with two distinct summits: Pointe Brevoort in the south and Pic Maître in the north. The ridgeline connecting these summits forms a distinctive profile visible from surrounding valleys.
The peak was mapped and documented during 19th-century alpine surveys of France. It became part of Écrins National Park in 1973, when the reserve was established to protect the natural landscapes of the French Alps.
The Grande Ruine stands as a central element of the mountain landscape in the Dauphiné Alps, defining the character of the Isère department.
Access to the summit typically begins from a mountain shelter located east of the peak. Visitors should be prepared for steep terrain, changing conditions, and a substantial climbing duration.
The mountain displays a prominence of 496 meters and maintains an isolation distance of 4.41 kilometers from the nearest higher summit.
