Tête du Rouget, Mountain summit in Isère, France

Tête du Rouget is a mountain summit in the Écrins range featuring steep western and southern faces with intricate rock formations. The peak rises above surrounding terrain with multiple distinct rock towers along its ridgelines.

This peak became a destination for climbers during the late 1800s when Alpine exploration expanded in France. Routes and climbing techniques on the mountain were refined and documented throughout the following century.

Located in the French Alps, this peak represents a significant destination for mountaineers who seek to master technical climbing routes.

Reaching this peak requires multiple days of hiking and climbing with technical sections. The best window for attempts is from late spring through early autumn when conditions are more favorable.

Several distinctive rock towers rise along the southern ridge, including formations climbers call the Grand Gendarme du Rouget and the Tour Jaune. These smaller peaks offer separate challenging objectives alongside the main summit route.
