Pic Ramougn

Pic Ramougn is a granite peak in the Néouvielle massif of the French Pyrenees, rising to 3011 meters. The mountain features alpine meadows and rocky formations that shape the landscape of this high mountain zone.

The peak was named after Louis Ramond de Carbonnières, a French politician and scientist who conducted geological research in the Pyrenees. Ramond was a key figure in exploring and mapping the region during the 19th century.

The name Ramougn comes from the local Gascon language and shows how regional speech traditions stay alive in mountain naming. This naming connects the geography with the cultural identity of the Pyrenees region.

The main route starts from Lake Aubert, passes through Barris breach, and continues up the valley beneath Ramougn ridge. This climb requires mountaineering experience and proper alpine equipment to navigate safely.

The glacier that once sat at the base of this peak has completely vanished over recent decades. Where ice and snow once dominated, a rocky valley now stands, revealing how high mountain landscapes are changing.
