Istállós-kői Cave

The cave opens at an elevation of 609 meters on the side of the Bükk Mountains with a large triangular entrance formed along a geological fault line.

Archaeological excavations in 1912 revealed stone tools, ceramic fragments, and prehistoric animal bones, including remains of cave bears, woolly mammoths, and cave lions.

The cave served as both a sacrificial site during ancient times and later as a stable, contributing to the understanding of human activities in the region.

Visitors can reach the cave through a steep serpentine footpath from Gloriette clearing, with the trail starting near the Szalajka spring.

The site contains evidence of the earliest known use of bow technology in the world, demonstrated by small bone arrowheads dating back 40,000 years.
