Bél-kő

Bél-kő is a limestone peak reaching 815 meters with white rock formations visible along the western section of the Bükk plateau. The mountain's structure shapes the landscape noticeably and reveals the geological character of this region.

Between 1963 and 2000, limestone extraction operations permanently altered the mountain's shape through large-scale material removal. This period left visible marks on the landscape that visitors can observe today.

The name comes from the local Bél clan, and this peak serves as a distinctive landmark in the Hungarian landscape. Visitors sense this connection to local heritage while walking through the area and observing how the mountain shapes the surrounding region.

The Bélkő Tanösvény hiking trail provides access to observation points with views over the Bélapátfalva hills and surrounding peaks. The path is well marked, but the terrain can be uneven, so proper hiking shoes are recommended.

The area shelters strictly protected plant species including rock pink and early carnation, found in very few places across Hungary. These botanical rarities make the location particularly valuable for nature observers and give it special importance for conservation.
