Daranghati Sanctuary, Protected forest area in Rampur Bushahr, Shimla District, India.
Daranghati Sanctuary is a protected forest area in Rampur Bushahr, Shimla District, extending across the Dhauladhar Mountain range. It consists of two sections called Manglab in the north and Nogli Gab in the south, covering a large expanse of mountainous terrain at elevations between 2400 and 3600 meters.
The sanctuary was established in 1962 after serving as a hunting reserve for the Raja of Bushahr. This transition from private hunting grounds to a protected wildlife area reflected changing attitudes toward conservation in the region.
Traditional wooden temples found here display building styles typical of Himachal Pradesh and reflect local craftsmanship. These structures show how people in the region have built and designed sacred spaces for generations.
Visitors need permission from the Chief Wildlife Warden or local Divisional Forest Officer before entering or staying in the area. It helps to contact the relevant authorities early to arrange all necessary paperwork and understand access rules.
The area is home to the Western Tragopan pheasant, a rare mountain bird, and the Jujurana bird species alongside old forests of blue pine, silver fir, and spruce. These bird species are difficult to spot in the wild, drawing birdwatchers who seek out these elusive inhabitants.
