National Highway 2, National highway in Assam and Nagaland, India
National Highway 2 is a major transportation corridor stretching across four northeastern states, connecting Dibrugarh in Assam with destinations in Nagaland, Manipur, and Mizoram. The road passes through varied terrain, from flat plains to hilly regions, and serves several important urban centers along its course.
The road was formed by consolidating earlier highways numbered 37, 61, 39, 150, and 54 into a single unified corridor. This merger of older routes improved connectivity across northeast India and strengthened links to neighboring regions.
The road links diverse ethnic groups across the northeast, creating natural meeting points where local communities interact and exchange goods. Markets along the way reflect the daily commerce that ties these settlements together.
The road is in its best condition during dry seasons when maintenance work is completed, while the rainy season can cause delays. Fuel stations and repair shops are regularly distributed along the route, so vehicle support is available at reasonable intervals.
This route is part of the Asian Highway Network and simultaneously functions as two international corridors. Its dual status as both AH1 and AH2 makes it one of the few roads that combines two branches of the Panasian Highway system.
