Geeta Colony bridge, Road bridge in East Delhi, India
Geeta Colony Bridge is a road crossing over the Yamuna River in East Delhi, stretching about 560 meters with six traffic lanes for vehicles. The structure includes dedicated spaces for bicycles and pedestrians on both sides, with a central divider separating traffic directions.
Construction began in December 2004 and finished in August 2008 under the leadership of Navayuga Engineering. The bridge was built to address growing transportation needs as East Delhi continued to expand.
The bridge connects different neighborhoods across the Yamuna and enables daily movement between eastern parts of Delhi for residents from various areas. It serves as a meeting point where people from different communities cross paths in their daily routines.
The bridge accommodates about 220,000 vehicles daily and experiences heavy traffic during peak hours. Pedestrians and cyclists should use the dedicated side paths and be aware of the high traffic volume.
During the 2010 traffic crisis, this bridge became a crucial alternate route when two other major river crossings became severely congested. This episode revealed how important the structure had become for distributing traffic across the wider region.
