Hall of Nations, Modernist building in New Delhi, India
The Hall of Nations was a modernist building in the Pragati Maidan complex in New Delhi featuring interconnected concrete domes that created a vast exhibition space. The site contained four exhibition halls connected by ramps and served as a venue for international trade fairs and displays.
The structure was inaugurated in 1972 by Prime Minister Indira Gandhi to commemorate twenty-five years of Indian independence through innovative design. It stood until 2017 when it was demolished to make way for new development.
The structure represented Indian architectural achievement by merging traditional spatial thinking with modern construction methods during the post-independence period.
The site was located within the Pragati Maidan grounds, accessible through several entrances and easily reachable by public transport. Visitors should note the building was demolished in 2017, so there is no physical structure remaining to visit today.
The structure was the first space-frame building made entirely of reinforced concrete, spanning distances that were unprecedented for its construction period. This engineering achievement made it a significant milestone in international architectural history.
