Hjálparfoss

Hjálparfoss is a two-stepped waterfall in Southern Iceland where the rivers Thjorsa and Fossa merge, creating two parallel streams that drop into a single plunge pool surrounded by dark basalt rocks. The water flows from a gentle approach before descending sharply into the basin below.

The waterfall has served as a landmark for travelers since ancient times, marking a crucial resting point along routes through the Icelandic Highlands. Its strategic location made it a vital stopping place for anyone journeying through the region's remote interior.
