Punta Basei

Punta Basei rises to 3,338 meters above sea level, featuring steep rock walls on its south face and glaciers on both eastern and western slopes.

The mountain was first conquered in August 1875 by mountaineers C. Poccardi and G. Blanchetti, who established the initial climbing route to the summit.

The mountain stands between Val di Rhêmes in Aosta Valley and Orco Valley in Piedmont, marking a natural border between these two distinct Italian regions.

The standard climbing route starts from Rosset Lake and requires approximately three hours of hiking to reach the summit through equipped passages with cables.

The Basei Glacier on the eastern slope shows significant signs of retreat, marking environmental changes in the Gran Paradiso mountain range over recent decades.
