Gran Vaudala, Alpine summit in Aosta Valley, Italy
Gran Vaudala is an alpine summit in Aosta Valley reaching 3,272 meters with multiple climbing routes across the northern face of the Gran Paradiso Group. The southern slopes are less steep and offer quieter ascent and descent options for hikers with moderate experience.
The summit was first climbed on record in 1877, marking a moment in the history of Alpine exploration. Since then it has remained a destination for mountaineers following the routes first documented at that time.
The mountain sits within Gran Paradiso National Park, where visitors walk paths that mountaineers have used for generations. The high alpine setting displays the plant and animal life that draws people to experience the landscape firsthand.
Visitors drive through Mont Blanc Tunnel to reach the area and then follow the routes from Rifugio Gian Federico Benevolo starting point. The best time to go is in summer when snow is gone and the paths are dry.
From this location one can see the Nivolè Lakes situated at high altitude, offering a special view across the surrounding landscape. These lakes are often overlooked even though they connect to the many routes that vary in difficulty.
