Rifugio Baroni al Brunone, Mountain hut in Valbondione, Italy.
Rifugio Baroni al Brunone is a mountain hut located at 2295 meters in the Fiumenero valley, positioned below Scaletta Pass between the Redorta and Tenda peaks. The refuge accommodates 60 guests with sleeping facilities, a dining area, hot showers, and can accommodate dietary preferences.
The building was originally constructed in 1879 as Ca' Brunona and underwent modifications in 1894. Major expansions followed in 1952, with comprehensive renovations between 1976 and 1977 creating the structure visitors see today.
The refuge was named after Antonio Baroni in 1968 by the Italian Alpine Club to honor his role in advancing mountaineering in this region.
Cell phone coverage is available at the site, making communication possible despite its isolated mountain setting. Visitors should know that the location is accessible only on foot and requires sturdy hiking boots and appropriate mountain gear.
The hut serves as the third checkpoint along the Western Orobie trail and stands as the sole structure in this remote valley area. Its isolation makes it a vital waypoint for hikers tackling this challenging mountain route.
