Kurashiki, Historical merchant district in Kurashiki, Japan.

The Bikan Historical Quarter extends along canals lined with white-walled buildings, willow trees, and stone bridges from the Edo Period.

During the Edo Period, Kurashiki functioned as a vital rice distribution center where merchants stored grain in warehouses before shipping through the canals.

The Ohara Museum of Art, established in 1930, houses a collection of European masterworks including paintings by El Greco, Monet, and Matisse.

Visitors can reach the historical district by taking a 10-minute walk north from JR Kurashiki Station through the modern shopping area.

Former rice storage buildings have transformed into museums, craft shops, and restaurants while maintaining their original architectural features.
