North Jeolla

North Jeolla spans from the Yellow Sea to the Sobaeksan National Park, with mountains in the east and agricultural plains in the west.

The province emerged in 1896 from the northern section of Jeolla province and received special self-governing status in January 2024.

The region maintains multiple educational institutions, traditional music festivals, and the World Calligraphy Biennale that draws international participation.

The Honam Expressway and KTX bullet train service connect the major cities of Jeonju, Iksan, and Gunsan to the rest of South Korea.

Rivers including Seomjin, Mangyeong, Dongjin, and Geum flow through the plains, making this region a primary rice production center of South Korea.
