Yangcheon District, Residential district in southwest Seoul, South Korea
Yangcheon is a district in southwest Seoul that encompasses several neighborhoods including Mok-dong and Sinjeong-dong. The area features modern residential towers, shopping centers, and sits alongside the Han River with good access to different parts of the city.
The area was originally called Jechapaui-hyun during the Goguryeo period before receiving its current name Yangcheon in 1310 under the Goryeo dynasty. This naming change reflects the region's long administrative history through different Korean kingdoms.
The district organizes the Yangcheon Companion Dog Culture Festival, reflecting the community's appreciation for pets and the area's geographical shape.
The district connects easily to central Seoul through multiple subway lines and bus routes, making it accessible for visitors exploring different neighborhoods. Major broadcasting networks have their headquarters here, which helps explain the steady flow of people and the developed infrastructure throughout the area.
The Hyperion Towers, completed in 2003, include a 69-story residential building reaching 256 meters in height, marking the district's modern architecture.
